My Visit to Miner’s Marsh Nature Trail in Kentville, Nova Scotia

Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia Hiking

Looking for a great walking trail in Kentville? Miner’s Marsh has you covered. You’ll find well-groomed trails and beautiful scenery.

Miner's Marsh Trail in Kentville

Miner’s Marsh is located just minutes from the heart of downtown Kentville (a small town in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia). The 1.7 km’s of walking trails take you through wooded areas and a wetland habitat constructed by Ducks Unlimited Canada.

In the following video, you’ll see me and my girls on a relaxing day trip. We kicked the day off with coffee at North Mountain Coffee in Berwick and then went for a walk at Miner’s Marsh. The video was shot with a GoPro Hero5 Black.

The marsh is named after the Miner family. They owned the land and used it as pasture grounds. Ducks Unlimited bought the land in 1994 and the trails were open to the public in 2010. They are open year-round.

You’ll most likely see some cute little critters as you walk the trail. So don’t forget your camera. On our visit we saw ducks, a downy woodpecker, soaring bald eagles, dragonflies, a heron, and some handsome canines (this is a great place to walk your dog).

The Cornwallis River runs through the area and there’s a pretty bridge crossing it at the entrance to the trails.

Relax and Spend Time With Friends

This is a great place to spend time with friends. The trails are good for exercising together, practising photography, or just relaxing and enjoying nature.

If you’re looking for a good picnic spot, you’ll find it at the beginning of the trail. There are picnic tables with a great view of the bridge and wetlands.

There is also a little library box at the beginning of the trail for those who like to linger.

When to Visit

Miner’s Marsh is popular year round. In the summer, spring and fall you can walk, run and bike the trails. In the winter they are great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

The trails are well groomed and have a gravel surface. They are wheelchair accessible, and great for baby strollers. They’re not opened to motorized vehicles, so they are safe for everyone.

Upkeep of the trails is taken care of by the Town of Kentville with help from The Rotary Club of Kentville, Michelin, and Health Promotion and Protection.

Where is Miner’s Marsh?

Miner’s Marsh is in Kentville Nova Scotia. The entrance to the trails is behind the County of Kings Municipal building which is on Cornwallis Street.

To get to parking and the entrance to the trail, you’ll drive down Barcaly Street (on the rt just before the Municipal building).

There is another entrance on Main Street (the old #1 highway) which is part of the Evangeline Trail. It’s across the road from the Kentville Agricultural Center. If you are heading to New Minas, it’s on the left right before the sign welcoming you to New Minas. If you are heading to Kentville, it’s on the right just before the sign welcoming you to Kentville. There is a nice little parking area at the entrance.

If you enter from Main Street you’ll have a longer walk to get to the Marsh. You’ll walk along The Rail Trail, by the Cornwallis River for just over 1km.
